atherine Jones ha completato gli studi musicali alla University of Western Australia (Perth), sua città natale, ottenendo il Diploma in violoncello moderno con il massimo dei voti (First Class Honours). In seguito al suo interesse per la musica antica, ha successivamente vinto una borsa di studio che le ha permesso di trasferirsi in Olanda dove è stata ammessa nella classe di Jaap ter Linden al Royal Conservatorium de L’Aia per specializzarsi nel repertorio barocco e classico e nel continuo. Nel 1999, dopo 4 anni di specializzazione sotto la guida dei più importanti esponenti del settore, Catherine ha ricevuto il Diploma in violoncello barocco presso lo stesso Conservatorio ("Tweede Fase" Master of Music) vincendo inoltre il prestigoso premio "Nicolai" per la migliore esecuzione e la miglior votazione dell'anno.
Da quel momento ha mantenuto una carriera internazionale suonando e registrando con orchestre e ensemble da camera in Europa, Stati Uniti, Giappone, Corea, Honk Kong tornando in Australia principalmente per esibirsi in concerti da camera.Catherine ricopre regolamente il ruolo di primo violoncello a Londra con Academy of Ancient Music e vanta una collaborazione più che decennale con Ton Koopman e Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. Riceve inoltre inviti come Guest Principal da numerosi e consolidati gruppi nel panorama della musica antica tra i quali English Concert, Florilegium (Londra), La Petite Bande, Sonnerie (Londra) e Concerto Copenhagen. È membro di European Brandenburg Ensemble, il nuovo gruppo creato da Trevor Pinnock con il quale Catherine ha registrato l'integrale dei Concerti Brandeburghesi e partecipato all'intensa attività concertistica della stagione 2006/2007.
Ha effettuato registrazioni per Deutsche Grammophone con l'orchestra italiana Il Complesso Barocco diretto da Alan Curtis, specializzata nel repertorio operistico haendeliano. La brillante collaborazione come continuista con l'ensemble l'ha portata ad un invito come solista e nel 2008 Catherine ha registrato il concerto di Leonardo Leo in Re minore per Deutsche Harmonia Mundi ed effettuato una tourneè in Germania nel dicembre dello stesso anno con lo stesso programma.
Contemporaneamente all'attività con orchestre consolidate e formazioni da camera come Island ha contribuito allo sviluppo di giovani e nuovi ensemble come l'innovativo B'rock (Belgio) dove regolarmente collabora come violoncello principale.
Nel 2008, dopo essere stata invitata ad un'audizione presso il Concertgebouw, (Amsterdam) dalla prestigiosa Fondazione olandese "Jumpstart Jr." Catherine ha vinto l’utilizzo di uno stupendo violoncello Gagliano 1770 per un periodo di quattro anni. Le registrazioni dello Stabat Mater di Boccherini e del Concerto di Leo sono realizzati con questo bellissimo strumento.
Come violoncello solista ha partecipato al Festival di Cremona con Il Complesso Barocco al Winter Festival (UWA, Perth WA) e in Utrecht per Oude Musiek Festival con la famosa Orchestra of 18th Century sotto la direzione di Frans Brüggen nel concerto per violoncello di Leonardo Leo e il doppio concerto per violino e violoncello di J.C.Bach.
Catherine si esibisce anche come primo violoncello con il gruppo La Scintilla di Zurigo con il quale ha partecipato agli attesi spettacoli della Norma di Bellini con Cecilia Bartoli e Giovanni Antonini al Festival di Salisburgo 2013.

Catherine è inoltre regolarmente invitata dal 2010 come solista dal Barock Musik Ensemble del Festival di Ernen (Svizzera) dove ha interpretato il concerto di Vivaldi per violoncello in Do minore, i concerti per violoncello di Fiorenza in Fa maggiore e Re minore, il concerto virtuosistico per violoncello in Sol minore di Porpora.
Catherine tiene Masterclass di violoncello barocco dall’agosto 2014 presso Austria Barock Akademie a Gmunden ed al Conservatorio “Evaristo Felice dall’Abaco” di Verona.
Di recente uscita il suo nuovo CD da solista con sonate di Boccherini e Cirri per Sony DHM che ha già ricevuto ottime recensioni radiofoniche (Radio 3, RSI; ABC) e in riviste specializzate in Europa ed Australia.
La stagione 2015 la vede impegnata in numerosi recital in Svizzera (Locarno) in Italia (Roma, Melzo, Forlì, Milano) ed Australia (Melbourne, Perth).
I suoi concerti sono stati trasmessi su Radio 3 (Concerti in Quirinale) e ABC Classic (Australia Broadcast Company).

atherine completed her Bachelor of Music degree on Modern Cello with First Class Honours at The University of Western Australia. She was subsequently awarded a Postgraduate scholarship which enabled her to travel to The Hague to follow her passion for the performance of Early Music. After being accepted into the Baroque cello class of Jaap ter Linden at the Royal Conservatorium, four years of specialised tuition followed and
she received her qualifications in Baroque Performance, also winning the Conservatorium's prestigious "Nicolai" prize for the highest performance exam results.
Catherine now has an international and varied career, performing and recording both as soloist and with ensembles based all over Europe, and in addition returning to Australia to perform solo recitals and record for ABC Classics.
She was a core member of The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra directed by Ton Koopman for more than ten years. During this period Catherine toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia and North America performing in most of the famous concert halls of the world and recording more than 20 disks. She has also been a regular principal player with The Academy of Ancient Music with whom she was solo cello with Richard Egarr in the much acclaimed recording of Handel’s Opus 4 Organ concertos for Harmonia Mundi.
Catherine is invited regularly as guest principal with other internationally respected groups such as The English Concert and Concerto Copenhagen and is a member of Trevor Pinnock's European Brandenburg Ensemble, with whom she has also toured extensively and recorded the complete Brandenburg Concertos which won the Baroque Instrumental Gramophone Award in 2008.
Catherine records for Deutsche Grammophone with the Italian Orchestra Il Complesso Barocco, directed by Alan Curtis. With this group she toured in Germany as cello soloist in the Leo concerto in d minor, which she subsequently recorded for CD release on the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi label. Other recent chamber music recordings include the Boccherini Stabat Mater with the Belgian group Capriola di Gioia and Amaryllis Dieltiens for Aeolus. In 2015 Capriola di Gioia will release a new recording on Aeolus which will include solo cello sonatas of Lanzetti, performed with Bart Naessens.
In 2008, after being invited to audition at The Concertgebouw,(Amsterdam) by the Dutch Instrument Fund “Jumpstart Jr.” Catherine was awarded the use of a Gagliano cello for a period of four years. Both the Boccherini and Leo cello concerto recordings are made using this very fine instrument.
As cello soloist she has also featured in the Festival of Cremona with Il Complesso Barocco and in the Utrecht Early Music Festival with the renowned Orchestra of the 18th Century and the late Franz Brüggen in concertos by Leonardo Leo and JC Bach.
Catherine also performs regularly as soloist with the Baroque Orchestra of the Ernen Festival (Switzerland) and in previous seasons has performed cello concertos by Vivaldi, Fiorenza and Porpora. In the coming 2015 season will play the Fiorenza cello concerto in D.
Catherine released her first solo disk of Boccherini and Cirri cello sonatas for Sony DHM in September 2014 to great acclaim and 5 star reviews;

Catherine will also perform in the Quirinale Live Concert series in Rome with William Carter and be interviewed and perform on the live Radio 3 show from Milan, “Piazza Verdi”.
Catherine has taught Masterclasses at the Austria Barock Akademie in Gmunden in August 2014, and will be again be teaching in 2016.
From March 2015 she will also be giving Masterclasses at the Conservatory of Verona.
